🦅 Could Gull Nesting Towers Help Manage Scarborough's Seagull Problems?

A £13,000 council-funded study suggests installing artificial nesting towers to manage gull-related issues, particularly guano accumulation. The study, conducted with the RSPB and University of Exeter, focused on the Grand Hotel, a key kittiwake nesting site. While the towers could help reduce nesting in urban areas, experts warn they may take years to become effective.

North Yorkshire Council's urban gull strategy aims to balance conservation with reducing aggressive gull behavior, such as food-snatching. In 2023, 556 occupied kittiwake nests were recorded at the Grand Hotel, a major colony site. More

🍸 Six New Bars & Restaurants Seek Licences
