🐾 Rescued seal released in Scarborough after emotional tribute and rehab
A young grey seal has been safely released back into the sea at Scarborough following a dramatic rescue and two-month rehabilitation. The seal was found tangled in more than seven feet of rope and debris near Danes Dyke, and thanks to quick action from the public and British Divers Marine Life Rescue, it was safely captured and treated.

Named Callum Oak in memory of local teen Callum Cooper, the seal received care including antibiotics and pain relief before being transferred to RSPCA Stapeley Grange. There, he gained weight and recovered from his injuries. Once strong enough, he was tagged and returned to Scarborough for release.

On a clear spring day, Callum Oak was released back into the wild, cheered on by Callum's family, friends and teachers. As he disappeared into the surf - quickly greeted by another seal - onlookers were moved by the moment. BDMLR, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Aldgate Vets and others were praised for making this heartwarming rescue possible. More
