😊 Scarborough children report more happiness at home - but girls still worry more
A recent wellbeing survey of North Yorkshire schoolchildren has revealed encouraging signs of improvement - particularly among younger children in the Scarborough area. Health consultant Dr Gill Kelly, speaking on behalf of North Yorkshire Council, said that 95% of local Year 2 pupils (aged 6-7) reported having someone they trust to talk to, and 70% described feeling happy at home. Both figures are up compared to the last survey three years ago.

However, the findings also point to a growing gender gap in emotional well-being. Across all age groups except the very youngest, girls were found to worry more than boys. While no specific reasons were cited in the report, the trend mirrors national concerns about anxiety and mental health among young girls in particular.

The results were gathered from pupils in Years 2, 6, 8 and 10, offering a broad picture of childhood wellbeing across the county. The survey is part of the council's ongoing efforts to track and support the emotional health of young people across North Yorkshire. More
